Hibiscus is a genus of flowering plants in the mallow family, Malvaceae. The genus is large, comprising several hundred species that are native to warm temperate, subtropical and tropical regions throughout the world. This one, seen in the garden of a hotel in Tenerife, is believed to be “Hibiscus rosa-sinensis” (sometimes known as China rose or rose mallow) is widely grown as an ornamental plant.
