The first time I ever saw a vermilion flycatcher was very recently, on a photography outing to Brazos Bend State Park. Of the dozens of photos I captured, all the good ones are of the bird perching rather than in flight, as it is exceptionally difficult to keep up with one of these birds in flight. By the time you manage to focus on the bird where he was a fraction of a second ago, he's already well out of the frame.
