Arches National Park. Those are the La Sal Mountains in the background in a snowstorm. I planned this particular trip to Delicate Arch to be there at sunset. But the entire west half of the sky was covered by a layer of cumulostratus clouds, and while the light was soft, it was not sunset-reddish. I hoped the clouds might clear, but it was getting darker, and I worried about hiking back down the trail; but by my watch, sunset was still a few minutes away. I finally scrambles up the mesa-top behind the camera - and joy of joys, there was a thin band of clear sky (less than 1-degree of arc) right on the horizon. I scrambled back to my camera, and had about 2 minutes of clear sunset sunshine - golden-red hour!
