I recently rented a micro (well, macro to you non-Nikon users) lens and took it to the Houston Arboretum, a nature center and green space in Houston, essentially a forest within the city. There is a meadow there, with a pond, and though it was late in the Spring when I went, there was still a single bluebonnet to be seen at the edge of the trail.
