Berlin, Germany. This trip to Berlin was VERY different from when I first went in the early 1970's. The entire wall was still up. Barbed wire, concrete barriers, guard towers, armed soldiers, and sadness were part of the scene then. Stories and photographs of people who tried to flee (and died) were displayed. It was a memorial as much as it was a "prison" for those who were forced to live there. Now only pieces of the wall remain, but they are filled with color and life.
