World At Night Photo Contest Winners

A special thanks to our friend and professional photographer Spencer Pablo for his collaboration as a guest judge. Spencer Pablo may be one of the most oddly placed characters among the Sony Artisans of Imagery. Comfortable behind a lens for over 20 years, his images have appeared in newspapers and museums.His work spans from landscapes to travel to family portraiture, and anything from behind the camera to in front of a classroom.

"This is my pick for the grand prize. I like how nicely exposed the cabin is on all visible sides and the color handling. What’s happening in the sky is awesome, toofrom the stars to the borealis. I think a tighter crop that brings the cabin from the center to the right thirds would make a better image and remove the footprints in the snow, though." - Spencer Pablo

"Man, I love this image. This would have won the grand prize if the horizon was straight (it appears to have a little bit of barrel distortion) and if the sky were tweaked a little bitwhich I’ll explain momentarily. I love the composition, the leading lines, and the capture of the galactic core. I dig the field in the foreground. I just wish that the sky was a cooler temperaturea bit more blue. Doing that would allow the land and sky to stand out on their own." - Spencer Pablo

"I really like the long shutter in this image. It’s an exciting composition. I think a tighter crop to remove some of the reflections (which don’t really do anything for the image). Also, a difference in white balance between the sky and the castle might help it stand out a little more." - Spencer Pablo
