Anything worth sharing about lighting?

For this image I exposed for the sky. I wanted to make sure I could represent the clouds well.

What equipment did you use?

For this image I used my canon 7D and my 17-40L lens my favorite lens body combo. I also used a tripod Manfrotto and set my camera on timer 10 second timer.

What inspired you to take this photo?

The name of the this photo is "Escape". I visit this state park a couple of times a year its always different. When I come here its quiet, peaceful away from everything that reminds me of the city of Las Vegas. I come here and a few other areas like this to unplug every once in a while. This day while hiking I saw the v shape in the hills that caught my eye the clouds I was already tracking in the back of my head. Then I stopped looked and saw I had a good foreground, middle ground, and great clouds for a background. I tried a few different compositions some with a little more sky some with a little less but this one with the balance of the water hills and sky pleased me the most.

Did you do any post-processing?

I exposed for the sky on this one so my middle ground and foreground levels where brought up a little bit to be in balance with the sky after that It went into Silver Efex Pro to be made into a black and white image.

What equipment do you normally have in your bag?

Tripod always my 17-40, 50mm 1.4 and my Tamron 28-70. I have a 70-200f4L that never makes it into my bag on these kind of days. I also keep a Yungnuo speed light flash with wireless triggers just in case. I also have a white balance card and a loop to see the images on the back of the camera in bright light.

Any advice for others trying to capture something similar?
