It was only two years ago that Bob Riach started taking photos, back then with a second hand Pentax K10. Since then he has upgraded to various cameras and lenses and has also been featured in various publications and several websites. His images portray his personal vision covering numerous subjects such as landscapes, cityscapes and architecture. We contacted Riach to ask him more about his photography, enjoy!

I love photography because: I have so much passion for photography and really love sharing that passion with others. Photography has also changed the way I see the world. It is about learning, understanding and sharing. I have recently purchased a Drone and love using it to take photos and video the subjects that I have photographed in the past, but now from a different perspective.

My camera lets me: chill out after a busy or stressful day at work. I often close my office early afternoon, divert my calls to my mobile phone and take my camera out for the afternoon and evening. I can often be found in a field late at night with my camera whilst my friends are in a nice bar enjoying a drink.

I find inspiration when: I often look on ViewBug (which is such a great place to get good ideas from) or other websites like Facebook for inspiration. I sometimes look at my cameras functions. If it’s something I don’t quite understand or can’t handle yet, I go out and practice doing it.

One of the photos I am most proud of is:

This is the first photo I took with my Sony Nex 7 back in 2014. It’s a picture of Wrawby Postmill and it has not been edited at all. It was taken late at night when it was dark and all I could see was the silhouette of the windmill. I had to guess the position of the camera. Also, I was not familiar with the camera settings so I had to use the light from my mobile phone to see the camera and locate the shutter button.I took five photos before I managed to get the camera in the correct position withouth cutting off the windmill sails. It’s a nice little history behind the photo and that’s why I like it. I have had this photo printed on a canvas and I am proud to have it showing on my lounge wall.
