Here is something we can learn from scottwilson about the techniques and story behind this awarded photo:

1. scottwilson, where did you take this photo?

I took this photo at Amelia IS. Florida for a wedding I shot. It was an impromptu shot, but I was very proud of it.

2. What time of day?

I took this midday indoors.

3. Anything worth sharing about lighting?

The lighting for this was achieved with a hand held LED video light, and I recommend every photographer have one in their bag. It's a very solid $40 investment that is great for food and jewelry shots.

4. What equipment did you use?

Tripod, Canon 5D Mk 11 and a Sigma 105 Macro Lens. For lighting I used a handheld video light.

5. What inspired you to take this photo?

We were looking around for things to take a ring shot on and spotted this little nest with eggs in a curio cabinet where the bride was prepping. I thought the theme of starting a nest was great for a wedding, so I set the nest aside for one of the ring shots. I took ring shots in other locations and set ups, but this was my favorite!

6. Did you do any post-processing? If yes, tell us about it!

Minimal post processing on this. I cloned a few distracting twigs and color corrected in Lightroom.

7. What equipment do you normally have in your bag?

I've since upgraded to a 5d Mklll and generally have my Tamron 24-70, Canon 70-200 (both with stabilization) and various gizmos and gadgets (like the video light) as well as a Canon 600 Flash.

8. Any advice for others trying to capture something similar?

Tripod is a must for macro work like this, and I do recommend something to light it up. In this case it was a cheapo video light, but I really like using it for macros.
