Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Wisconsin in December. When you go approximately 1 block away from my house, there is a big catholic church called Notre Dame. When you walk over by the Grotto, there is a long rock wall that is about 3 feet tall. If you go past the wall, there is a giant down hill since a real giant part of the town I live in is on top of a hill. This photo is taken off of that long 3 feet tall wall that I stood up on to get a really good view of the city. In the winter, since there are no leaves on the trees, you can get an incredible view of a giant chunk of downtown!

Time

I took this photo at sunset time in December. The sun goes down really early in the winter where I live so I would say that I took this picture anywhere from 4:30-5:30 PM.

Lighting

There is not really much to say about the lighting. The only thing really to say is that it was a challenge taking the photo at this time of day because this photo was taken with a cheap Canon camera which makes it a challenge to get any photos when it is dark out.

Equipment

Camera: Canon Powershot SX 160 IS. Lens: The lens was built-in. Tripod: No tripod used. Flash: No flash used.

Inspiration

I was on my way back home coming from the local Dollar Tree with my mom. When I got a few minutes away from home I noticed this incredible sky. It was easily the most gorgeous sky I had ever seen in my life. Sunsets that are really good usually go away very fast so by the time I got to where I needed to be to take the photo, it was almost half as good as it was when it was fully there but I was just in time to still get a great picture. In about ten minutes, the sky was mostly gone!

Editing

No post-processing or retouching done. This photo is an original!

In my camera bag

When I took this photo, I did not have a camera bag. I did not need one since I was a beginning photographer and only had a Canon camera and its built-in lens. But for my camera bag that I have now, I always have my Nikon D3400 camera. My Nikkor 18-55 mm kit lens. My Tamron 18-200 mm lens and its lens hood. My Nikkor 70-300 mm kit lens. And my spare rechargeable camera battery. I also have a Tamron 150-600 mm lens but that I use only on special occasions.

Feedback

If you ever get the chance to photograph a gorgeous and unique sky like this one, find the best place to photograph that is the quickest to go to, and take some photos. Sunsets like these are a Once In A Lifetime deal and you are lucky if you ever get to experience one! And also, make sure that your shutter speed is not too fast or else your picture will come out very dark!
