I took this photo while out on a family visit at African Dawn Wildlife Sanctuary near Jeffrey's Bay, South Africa.Time
This is probably one of my favourite images. I remember ariving there around 10am and ended up taking photos all day just because of the vast amount of unique and colourful birds and animals they currently have. I took this photo at midday around 2pm. I ended up spending atleast 40 minutes focusing on this beautiful Golden male pheasant trying to capture its amazing bright colours and features, trying to accurately portray its unique feather patterns and neon like complimentary colours.Lighting
I wanted this image to accurately capture the details of this magnificent bird's bright coloured feathers as well as its complex patterns so I chose to use the natural light of the sun to my advantage and to highlight the texture and colours of the bird's coat. No flash was needed as the sun perfectly shone through behind me while taking the photo, highlighting every detail.Equipment
I took this photo with a Nikon D3100 using my 55-200mm lense which allowed me to get up close and capture this beautiful detailed shot. No other equipment was needed.Inspiration
I was actually inspired to visit African Dawn Wildlife Sanctuary to try and capture some exotic animals up close for some of the contests on Viewbug. I would have been pleased with just a few birds, but was even more inspired when I found that this sanctuary had more exotic and unique animals than I expected. I could easily have spent all day capturing the uniqueness and beauty of each animal, as there were so many to choose from. But I was captivated and struck by the beauty of this specific bird species and ended up spending allot of time focusing on this specific bird, captivated by its bright colours and contrast patterns.Editing
The natural light of the sun did most of the work so no post processing was needed. In my camera bag
The first thing I always pack will be my Nikon D3100, my 18-55mm lense for closups and my 55-200mm lense for some zoom action.Feedback
I would say the natural light of the sun did most of the complimentary enhancement in capturing the textures and details of the bird's feathers and patterns as well as the brightness of the colours of the bird's coat. I am a self taught photographer so I learn something new with every shot, and in this specific case I learnt the power of being able to use natural sunlight to my advantage. And I think the results speak for itself.
