I finally got to take a trip to Europe, some thing I’ve wanted to do all my life. And as you can see, I landed in the Netherlands this photo was taken at Kinderdijk on their canal cruise. I’ve seen photos of the windmills before, so I was thrilled to be able to take my version. Also, the captain turned the boat and specifically pointed out the view for people who wanted to photograph them, so thank you captain!Time
It was early morning, and I think we were the second boat to go out. I was with a tour group on my trip, so didn’t have a choice of time of day, but as it turned out, lucky me! Lol.Lighting
When you are outside visiting sites, the only thing I can suggest is watching the weather and choosing your time of day if it all possible.Equipment
Since I was limited to one carry-on suitcase, and one purse, I took my Tamron, 16 -300 zoom lens on my Canon 70 D camera and shot hand held.Inspiration
I grew up in a community with many Dutch friends, and loved the windmills They had on their pottery and photographs on their walls, and then, seeing other photos of the windmills, spurred me on to take my own photos. It was a beautiful and peaceful site to behold. Who could resist?Editing
Since it was early morning, I needed to boost the color and contrasted a bit. Also being hand held and on the boat it wasn’t quite level so I did straighten the photo just a tiny bit.In my camera bag
I always pack my new camera, a Canon R6 mirror, less camera, my EF two RF adapter, so I can use my EF lenses as needed. My new Canon RF 24-105 f4 lens is my basic go to favorite that takes really short photos and it’s always in my kit. I have a couple of longer lenses I take with me if I am going to be doing wildlife and birds.Feedback
In the Netherlands, with so many canals and access to the ocean, the weather can be quite changeable. I was there in early April, so some days were quite misty while other days were sunny and bright. So a person has to take time of year and weather into consideration, when planning for this type of subject to shoot.
