Location
I took this photo at the beautiful famous location of Lake Louise in Banff National Park at their Winter festival.Time
This was taken before noon. The heat from the morning sun was pushing the colder mist from the previous night out of the trees over the frozen lake.Lighting
The problem I tend to have is trying to get the perfect balance with the bright snow, and shadows of the mountain. It tends to make the shadow of the mountain way to dark. I took several but went with the darker mountain and used a photo shop program to enhance and lighten the the dark mountain.Equipment
I used my Fine Pix S100FS camera by Fuji with a fixed lens.Inspiration
I love the beauty of the mountains and working on taking better winter scenes since the lighting is so hard to work with. When I saw the mist coming over the trees and the cabin (which is actually a canoe rental cabin), I thought this was a magical place, cool yet cozy little photo. Just missing the little smoke coming out of the cabin would of made it perfect.Editing
Cause of the lighting issues I compensated by using an HDR ish program to help sharpen the photo, and also used the program to lighten the dark spaces. It gave it a grainy texture but I thought it was appropriate and gave it a cold crisp look.In my camera bag
I never leave without my camera. I have a fix lens, so I only take my tripod, extra battery and a lens cloth to keep the lens clean at all times.Feedback
When you are out and about, take photos of what you love. I try several settings on a setting I would like to take. I take lots, one will turn out that you will just love. One thing I keep in mind, look for unusual and never center unless that is the point of the photo. I am still working on my winter scenes and getting that perfect photo, and happy balance between the shadow and the brightness of the snow.
