Behind The Lens

Location

I took the photo several years ago on a trip to the Calgary, AB Zoo's Conservatories Orchid garden.

Time

Not sure at this point what time of day but I'm guessing early to mid afternoon and the light was primarily natural light (I don't think there was any supplemental light).

Lighting

There was nothing noteworthy about the light.

Equipment

The shot was taken on a cell phone with no special equipment.

Inspiration

The flower - this shot is the equivalent of what my father called 'found Art'... it exist without us, we just recognize and appreciate it. I've seen lots of flowers and some that implied a face, or something of that type, but this is the only photo I've seen that has a face with character and a body... it all ties together to look like a friendly teddy bear reaching out to hug you. From there it's some technical things composition (triangles, color, texture).

Editing

Yes. I cropped the original image... cropping is limited in cell (I can also see/work with the image better on a larger screen). Cleaned up the color a bit (i.e. saturation). The rest of the shot is 'as taken'.

In my camera bag

My Bag is really simple my DLSR, a 28-105 lens, a 28-80 macro (not sure why I keep it in the bag), a polarize filter, cleaning supplies and (if I think I might need it) the travel tripod. That said I am more often than not wondering around like a lost sheep with just the 28-105 on camera on it.

Feedback

None... This shot comes down to the same things any unplanned shot does... recognizing the potential for a good picture (the art of seeing), figuring out how you want to capture it... then others will tell you whether they value your vision/image (if you put in out there). If you do put it out there you may need a thick skin. I have images on this site that get no likes yet get recognition on a different online platforms... it's just a different audience.
