Location
I took this photo in downtown Rotterdam, Holland.Time
It was about 1 pm.Lighting
These cube houses are build in such a manner that they form closed patios, so if you try to take a photo upwards you have the problem of an overexposed sky. I couldn't get the settings of my camera good enough to solve this problem, so I had to edit a bit in lightroom to get the lighting I wanted.Equipment
I didn't use any equipment other then my wonderful little Lumix DMC-TZ100.Inspiration
Rotterdam is famous for its modern architecture. These cube houses were realized in 1974 by Piet Blom, based on the concept of living as an urban roof. The houses were build on pylons representing trees, forming a forest. I wanted to show this concept by taking the photo upwards, showing the roof of the city.Editing
Taking this photo upwards to the sky was difficult because the houses were underexposed because of the bright sky. I could not get my settings well enough so I had to edit the final corrections in Lightroom. In my camera bag
I don't have any equipment in my bag (yet) I am a beginning photographer and I am learning to use a camera, to look for the good light, composition and point of view. One day when I know how to use and set the camera well enough, I will start to think about a bag filled with technical things instead of the need to understand...Feedback
If you want to take a photo of a building created as a concept you have to be aware of what the architect wanted to express in order to take a photo which represents this idea. In this case the concept was "living as an urban roof" and the houses were build like trees. I choose to take the photo upwards as if I was standing in the forest. If you look at a subject to photograph, you have to try to realise what you want to achieve, Try to find the good light, the right point of view and the best composition... And most of all, take more shots with slightly different settings so you can choose the best one, once you got home and opened your laptop, the magic of today's world begins... I always crop it later into the size and composition I like best. Crop the photo in different ways, so you can choose the best one the next day when you can have a fresh look at them!day when you can have a fresh look at them!
