I really love how the church is nicely lit to reveal its design. Is Rocklyn Zion United Methodist Church in Washington State? Beautiful building and location and gorgeous image overall!

Location
Rocklyn Zion United Methodist Church is a small country church really out in the middle of nowhere west of Spokane and between Davenport and Harrington, Washington. It has been a favorite of photographers for years and I've personally visited this location several times, both during the day and night time hours.Time
This particular shoot was in March about the time the Milky Way is becoming visible in the early morning hours. I believe I was on location from about 11:30pm until around 4:00am capturing various compositions and lighting conditions.Lighting
As in any night time shoot, especially of the Milky Way, the darker the skies and location the better. I was shooting towards the ambient light of Spokane so had to be aware of how much was showing up in the image. I did use a small powerful flashlight to light paint the church. Out of an eight to ten second exposure, I painted the church for maybe three to four seconds of that.Equipment
I used a Canon 5D Mark IV with a Canon 16-36mm wide angle lens, and a small flashlight to light paint the church.Inspiration
I have really enjoyed many sleepless nights capturing the Milky Way in various locations. This small country church is in a very dark location of eastern Washington and a favorite of photographers. The time of year was early in the Milky Way season and I thought I'd give it a try and was fortunate to bring home several nice images of the church and Milky Way that night.Editing
Shooting is RAW, I rely on Lightroom and at times Photoshop to edit my photos. I've found Lightroom can help enhance details throughout the entire image and in some cases emphasize areas and downplay others. It's a continuing learning experience for me.In my camera bag
I usually have at least a couple of camera bodies, either Canon 5D Mark IV, Canon 5DS R, or Canon 1DX Mark II with me. Lens really depend on what I'm hoping to see and photograph. My most versatile lens is the 24-105mm telephoto that I always have with me. Others might include the 16-36mm wide angle, 70-200mm telephoto, 100-400mm telephoto and lastly a 150-600mm telephoto. I carry a selection of ND filters, flash, shutter release cables, flashlights, tripod mounts and at least one tripod.Feedback
Timing, patience and knowledge of where there are dark areas are very important. I would assume it would be very difficult to photograph night scenes of the Milky Way in areas that are heavy with city ambient light. The rewards for staying out late at night or even all night can be amazing.
