' Esgair Cemlyn ' , in Welsh , translates as , ' Crooked Lake Ridge ' , and is the name for the naturally occurring shingle embankment which has created the crooked seawater lagoon that the coastal area of Cemlyn Bay is named after. The ridge, lake , and pair of small islands within it are a haven for nesting seabirds from Spring to Midsummer and it houses for a short time one of the largest Tern colonies in the UK , which I am lucky enough to help protect and manage as a Volunteer Wildlife Warden for the North Wales Wildlife Trust. The walls and tiny bridge that can be seen in perfect symmetry in this image are part of the historic use of the site which also included housing a secret set of Naval Seaforces and Watercraft behind the tall walls of the property just out of shot to be unleashed over the ridge if the island and Welsh Coastline was going to be invaded from the sea during World War 2. Cemlyn is one of my happy places and a great place to Photograph when the weather is fine . But be advised , if you ever visit there , have sunscreen , a hat and good coat , even in summer it is always windy , the calmness of the water belies the true blustery nature of the weather.
