Location
I took this photo by Navarre Beach, on the shore of the bay.Time
This photo was on January 23rd taken around 6:30pm!Lighting
Most of the photos I shoot are outdoors so I had to work with some dreary overcast skies for this shot, but I think the even level of exposure due to the cloud cover helped evenly light the shot and prevent any harsh shadows.Equipment
This photo was shot on a Sony A7III, using a Sony f/1.8 50mm prime lens, shooting handheld at 1/500sec @ ISO 200.Inspiration
I was on a little adventure with two of my friends, one of which is another fellow photographer. Our main goal of the day was to shoot portraits for our friends, however when this beautiful heron decided to cross our path I had to snap a photo! One of my favorite things about photography is when I go out on a shoot with an idea in mind, and one of the best photos ends up being completely unrelated to the idea.Editing
I did some light post-processing in Adobe Lightroom, mostly just bringing back color to the water and the heron, while reducing highlights in the sky and making the birds in flight pop out a bit more from the photo. In my camera bag
I normally carry my main A7III body, a 50mm f.1/8 prime, a 24-70mm f/2.8 zoom lens, and a 10-18mm f/4 wide-angle lens. Most of the time I would rely on the 50mm prime, however I purchased the 24-70 after shooting this photo. Normally I would default to using the 24-70mm for most of my photos nowadays, but I'm actually very thankful I used the 50mm prime in this case! The bokeh from the low aperture really ties this photo together for me.Feedback
If you want to get a heron's attention, and you happen to be near a restaurant, french fries work as perfect bait for a heron. You'll wield all the power once that tall bird sees your tasty little treat. In all seriousness, patience and taking a lot of photos at a high shutter speed will help ensure you get the right photo!
