Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo at my 'happy place', a small lake about a three mile walk from my home. The lake has been a constant source of comfort over the most challenging twelve months of my life. A place to reflect on quiet calm, feel uplifted, cry and find solace in solitude. My happy place. My sanctuary. I like to think that comes across in the images captured there.Time
No matter the season, no matter how early, I'm a sunrise chaser. To see the clouds changing, the colours in the sky constantly dancing, the reflections on the water creating a perfect mirror image of the shapes above and the day springing to life generates in me such a spiritual lift. This shot was taken late November around 8am, the first sunrise I captured following the death of my father. I had hoped for a moment of beautiful wonder. It did not disappoint.Lighting
There is no lighting more perfect than that which nature casts in the skies...Equipment
As an amateur, completely unskilled photographer, I rely solely on my Huawei P30 smartphone to capture images in the hope it can reflect what my eyes are seeing. This shot was taken in Pro mode, using the auto white balance setting and preset ISO etc. No tripod, no additional lenses, no artificial lighting.Inspiration
The awakening morning was all the inspiration needed. Point, press and relish the moment unfolding in front of meEditing
Using Adobe Lightroom, I slightly increased the clarity and dehaze to enhance the detail in the image. Vibrance was slightly increased to make the colours pop.In my camera bag
My phone is in my pocket ready to capture any moment which may occur. Bag contains a lens ball and glass bottle to rest it on, nothing more. That's the beauty of smartphone photographyFeedback
Don't try too hard to capture the most professional or skilled image, you'll miss the moment. When the lens captures what your eyes see and your heart feels, you've got the shot
