Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my home studio.

Time

I have one big window that allows a little light in my studio. As a photographer I love to use the natural light, but here I used my lights to help give more character and bring my idea to life.

Lighting

The idea behind this photo was to use more back lighting to get a silhouette image. I also wanted to show a little detail of her face along with not losing focus on her pregnancy!

Equipment

I shoot with a Canon 60D camera, my lens is 85mm Art 1.4 and studio flash to capture the back lighting.

Inspiration

Shapes have been a big role in when taking photos or making art. I wanted to show off her beautiful belly but yet make it more dark with outer areas light up from the back light.

Editing

When processing images from my studio I do use a lot of it. My studio is based out of my home and in a small space. When retouching this image I darkened up the subject just a bit, but not to much to loose the light on her. I also lightened up the back with the smoothing tool so you couldn't see the wrinkles in a few places on the backdrop.

In my camera bag

My favorite lens to carry is my Sigma 85mm Art 1.4 lens for canon.

Feedback

When I do certain sessions, I always do little research so I don't lose ideas, but yet I always add my own touch to things weather it may work or not. Always take more than one photo with 4 different light settings. This reason is because even though you have the idea and know how the lights should be set up and cast on your subject, you may find it may give off a better presentation "accidental" light.
