Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in the backyard if my home, in Portland OR.

Time

It was later in the afternoon/early evening. The sun was just starting to go down which gave way to some good outdoor lighting.

Lighting

I wasn't trying to achieve anything special. I just wanted good natural light.

Equipment

For this shot, I only used a camera. I was moving around a lot during this shoot as well as laying on the ground. So less was better.

Inspiration

I had just gotten this puppy with big floppy ears and I just felt like he would be a fun subject to capture.

Editing

Catching a moving subject is not my strongest suit, so a little bit of cropping to focus on the subject.

In my camera bag

I keep to the basics. Camera a few lenses and some filters. Depends on where I am going and subject matter.

Feedback

Get down closer to their level and don't be afraid to get dirty. Be prepared with a variety of toys and treats that can help keep their attention. Puppies have short attention spans so variety is important.
