These Tiger Grass plumes decorate the view outside our Clinton Massachusetts USA condo breakfast nook window all winter long.Time
It was a brilliant sunny morning and the sunlight sparkled on the Tiger Grass seed pod plumes that had burst forth in October. The line of sight was North to South about 10am in late November.Lighting
The sharp angle of the sun and the cool clean air of late fall led to a special lighting moment with the sunlit patch of Tiger Grass. In fact due to this unique lighting moment the photo highlights provide an eye pleasing visual duet between the Tiger Grass plumes and Bokeh.Equipment
The camera was a handheld Canon EOS R with a fixed Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 lens on the R to EF adapter.Inspiration
After looking at the sunlight shimmering on the plumes through a window, I went outside to try and capturing the scene after taking several shots through the window. This photo which you selected is square as it was prepared for my Instagram post. The larger parent is also available in my Viewbug collection which shows more of the grass. I actually like the cropping result of the square better than the original.Editing
The photo was processed in Lightroom Classic for exposure and cropped for Instagram. The Bokeh provided by the f/1.4 lens set at f/1.8 is a key ingredient in the photo quality.and was set by the camera. The photo was also pre-processed by Topaz Sharpen AI for stabilization enhanced resolution with the Lightroom Classic plugin before any other processing. In my camera bag
Canon EF 24-105mm, Sigma 70-300mm, Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 lenses with a variety of filters including 0 density, a second battery, a remote control for exposure, tripod accessories, various lens hoods, lens cleaning supplies, various small lens stand attachments, Canon Speedlite flash, backup batteries for flash, USB cable for camera, and several flash filter accessories.Feedback
Lighting was crucial to getting this photo to display the duet between sunlit grass and Bokeh. Make sure that the photographer positions the camera to focus on the subject and use a large aperture lens to limit the depth of field to a narrow few inches.
