Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Studio 3MI in Bunker Hill, WV. Josh, the owner, has become a good friend of mine. I am relatively new to photography (started in July of 2020) and he has been a great mentor to me.

Time

I think it was probably early afternoon, although it's impossible to tell since this was shot indoors in a studio. I still feel I got some "evening" vibes into the photo, though!

Lighting

I love strobe lights. I only wanted one on her and nothing else to keep the rest dark and mysterious.

Equipment

My camera is a Olympus E-M10MarkII, and I used 40-150mm lens, and that's it.

Inspiration

I love bodyscapes, and Kayla Kurnik, the featured model, is just very good with free-flow posing. Really I was just happy to go along for the ride! It's really best when your model or subject is completely comfortable and confident in front of the camera, it truly makes a difference.

Editing

I felt Kayla was already spot-on so I didn't want to alter her in any way, but I did gently touch up the lighting in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

Since I am still new at photography, I travel light! I have my olympus camera, the 40-150mm lens, and a 14-42 lens. I definitely plan on expanding my collection someday though!

Feedback

One of the wonderful things about using a studio is how much control you have over lighting and background. Play around with light settings. Play with angles: I was practically lying down on the floor to get the angle for this shot!
