Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken on the opening day of the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Las Vegas is a great place to photograph. The subject and opportunities abound and the scenery offers many chances to try different themes, subjects, and backgrounds.Time
This was taken in the morning around 8am or so. The opening day 12/20/2010 in Las Vegas.Lighting
The lighting opportunities were many. There were the basic wall lights, neon and signage and the main hotel lobby was bright and open to my back. Also the smoky colored glass added to reflections of the existing lighting. The blending of everything together made it a more vibrant shot.Equipment
Canon EOS Rebel, 18-55 mm lens. no flash or special filters.Inspiration
The shoe was the inspiration, but the added architecture, layout, and lighting just brought it together. The Cosmopolitan was just opened literally hours before- so it was new and shiny in it's grandeur. It kinda reminded of a living Erte seen. geometric, colorful, and Art-Deco feel. I am pretty much self-taught and still learning alot about the shooting of digital. But this picture presented in a natural state, I just couldn't resist it.Editing
In this case, I didn't do any retouching, correcting, or resizing. It was as I saw it at that moment in time.In my camera bag
My basic go to bag is my 10 mega pixel Canon EOS Rebel, EFX 18-55 mm and telephoto lens, zeikos macro lens attachment, filter set, macro-filter set for outdoor shooting esp. nature shots. external flash-Canon. I carry a Kodak 10X optical- 12 megapixels. The Kodak has at times rivaled the Canon in quality. Especially, in tight situations.Feedback
Because space is tight, walking traffic on the strip and in the casinos usually very busy. Find a quiet spot wait for an ebb in activity. I usually went between 7-10 am. It was just enough foot traffic to make the shot more interesting. don't expect to have a lot of opportunity to fidget with a lot of filters, lenses, and extras. go camera ready- thats why I had my Kodak available to get different views and settings a little quicker.
