This photo of a little Silver-eye was taken in my parents garden on their farm near Byron Bay.Time
I often sit in the garden opposite a small bird bath and fountain surrounded by shrubs and vines, usually later in the afternoon between 3 and 5pm. This is when the Finches, Wrens, Fantails, Honey-eaters, Whip Birds and Silver-eyes come in for a bath and a drink. They are all fairly organised and fly in at different intervals for their turn although some do squabble over the prime spot, in the pool above the fountain.Lighting
The afternoon light is less harsh and the other bonus is that it's behind me, lighting up the bird bath and foliage around itEquipment
I have a Nikon d7200 and a Tamron 18-400mm lensInspiration
I had noticed some of the birds would land on a Hoya vine occasionally on their way in, which had good light and a dark background, so I focused on that area and luckily this little guy came along and posed perfectly.Editing
Because I was lucky with the light in that area I only needed to crop, sharpen and adjust contrast and colour a little. In my camera bag
D7200, Tamron 18-400mm lens a Nikon 50mm 1.8, some filters and cleaning gear. Pretty basic I guess.Feedback
You don't need a lot of gear, just think what you want to achieve, observe your surroundings, have lots of patience and most of all.. enjoy what you do.
