Location
This photo was taken in my home, kinda on a whim one night. I set this shot up against my daughter's play kitchen.Time
I took this photo approximately at 8pm, while my wife was laying down our 2 year old daughter.Lighting
I have always seen these gorgeous photos of plants with dark backgrounds and was trying to recreate that look. I turned on a few lights in the room behind me, mostly so I could see what I was doing, and then used a Lume Cube handheld to light the subject.Equipment
This shot was taken on a Canon 6D Mark I, with a Canon 40mm STM lens. I didn't use a tripod (although I definitely should have!) And used a Lume Cube to light the subject.Inspiration
I have always loved the studio shots of products with dark backgrounds. I love the details they can get in the subjects, where you can see all the texture and color variations. This was my attempt to recreate that look.Editing
Yes, this shot was edited in Lightroom. Taking this shot handheld meant that it needed some leveling and cropping. Also, I had to edit out some screw holes that were in the background. I darked the shadows to get the look I was going for, then brought up the highlights to show all the details. In my camera bag
In my bad, I normally have my camera (Canon 6D Mark I), 3 lenses (Canon 40mm STM, Canon 75-300 Kit, Rokinon 14mm), a Neewer Speedlite, and my Lume Cube. I also have various chargers and cords associated with this gear.Feedback
My advice for a shot like this is to really play around with the lighting and the angles. The whole shot changes depending on where you are lighting from, how close you are to the subject, and how dark you can get your background. So play around with the lighting to find what you want and have fun!
