Location
This photo was taken in an abandoned town in Pennsylvania, USA called Centralia. The road this was taken on is called "Graffiti Highway" and is known for being completely covered in graffiti. Its a beautiful stroll through the woods, that leads you to about a 1/2 mile "highway ".Time
This photo was taken at approximately 7:34pm, central eastern time zone. It was a very cold day, windy, and the chill was enough to give you wind burn. But as the sun was coming down I was able to get one of my favorite shots to this day, and I couldn't be more happy with it.Lighting
After searching for a place to lay my model down, we turned her toward the mountains where the sun was just starting to go down. It was a very eerie kind of day. The sun was being forced behind the clouds, but wanted to sneak out on occasions giving us opportunities for really good shots.Equipment
This shot was taken with a Canon Eos Mark IV, and a Canon EF 50mm 1.8 lens, along with a stool for me to stand on to get above her.Inspiration
The place I took this photo was in our history books in school. I was always very very curious to know what this place was all about. Back in 1962 a coal mine set to flames and has been burning underground ever since. You can find spots where the steam spews up out of the ground, and places where the ground sinks into huge holes from it burning. I loved the fact that the highway was covered in graffiti, as it gave me more opportunity to contrast colors and spice it up a bit. I love shooting above people and when the idea sprung I hopped up on the stool and told her to look directly at me. This is still to this day one of my absolute favorite shots. Even tho it was 27 degrees with a windchill of 20° we managed. The wind burn on our faces and the shivering was all worth it!Editing
I enhanced reds, and blues. Toning down the greens and yellows. Messed with the exposure and also made sure to clarify it a tad more.In my camera bag
I love shooting with my Canon Eos Mark IV and my 1.8 50mm lens. I always carry a tripod, extra batteries, and make sure I have my Halo Charging Station for access to electric.Feedback
All I have to say is if you have a vision, GO FOR IT! Do not let anything hold you back! And make sure you remember shadows when you are above her/him taking the photo!
