Location
This photo was taken Just east of Green Valley, Arizona. The Mountains are the Santa Rita Mountains. The dirt road is Helvetia Road.Time
This was taken in the evening at dusk.Lighting
I used a circular neutral density filter to extend the time so I could catch the shot. It was not quite dark yet and as I do not have a lightning trigger I needed the extra time. f4, 10/1 24mmEquipment
Cannon 6d, 24-105 lens and a neutral density filter. I also used a remote shutter release. A Manfrotto tripod that I picked up at a yard sale for $10.Inspiration
I was shooting sunset when the storm started.Editing
I shoot in Raw mode so yes I always have to post process. I also reduce the whites to show the bolts better. some sharpening and tonal contrast as well. I use Photoshop to achieve this.In my camera bag
I carry a Canon 6d, a 12-20 wide angle Sigma lens, a 24-105 Canon lens and a 100-400 Canon lens and a Yongnuo flash. As well as several neutral density filters. remote shutter release, Several extra batteries for the camera the flash and the remote. I also carry some cleaning gear and other odds and ends.Feedback
Hold your shutter ope as long as possible. If you have a remote shutter release hold the shutter open until you catch a flash I usually allow the shutter to close after a minute or so. If you do not have a shutter release set the shutter time to 30 seconds and keep snapping. You will get a lot of black photos using this method but as I can not afford a lightning trigger this is the method I use.
