Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken at Multnomah Falls near Portland, OR. The photo only caught one section of this 620' natural beauty. At the time I took this photo, they were repairing the bridge, so no one was allowed on it.Time
The editing on the image brings out the shadows, but originally I took the image in the afternoon. This allowed me to have enough light to highlight elements like the water, but still have shadows to enhance.Lighting
Bringing out the shadows highlights some of the really interesting shapes in the bridge and also adds an element of making the scene look aged.Equipment
Right now, I primarily work with my smartphone. I hope to purchase a nice nikon in the future. I would love to engage with a better lens and equipment in general.Inspiration
The natural beauty of the waterfall coupled with the engineered beauty of the bridge made for a scene I couldn't resist.Editing
Enhancing the shadow element was a big portion of the post-processing work.In my camera bag
My phone goes with me everywhere, so it is easy to whip out and snap whatever intriguing scene presents itself. Because I'm not heavy on the equipment at present, the primary tool I use is my keen eye. Developing your intuitive sense of beauty and also practicing your skill of composition will benefit you greatly.Feedback
Placing a strong subject in the upper third really helps to make this photo. Definitely understanding the rule of thirds and using this religiously, has been a big help to me in starting my photography journey.
