Location
Tenerife is perhaps best known as a typical charter tourism destination, full of resorts and sunny beaches, but if you venture away from those places you'll discover that it has so much more to offer. Like the spectacular Teide National Park, a volcanic masterpiece of nature. This shot was taken on one of the roads inside mentioned national park.Time
It was taken in the afternoon when I was making my way to the Roques de Garcia area in Teide National Park for some night shooting, i ended up stopping a lot along the way and found this spot having one of the most dramatic views of the road.Lighting
I'm happy this was taken during the afternoon and there was a little bit of a cloud cover so it didn't turn out too bright, the afternoon light helped emphasize the dramatic landscape.Equipment
Shot with my Nikon D750, handheld, with a Tamron 15-30 2.8 G1 lens.Inspiration
I stopped several places along the way to take in the sights around the road, but for this particular shot I "discovered" it looking through the rear-view mirror while driving this stretch of road, there was a nice place to stop along it, so took the opportunity. Had to wait around for a little while since the road was fairly busy, but I was lucky that it cleared up and I could get the shot without to much traffic. The one car far down the road I feel helps to put the scale of the place into perspective.Editing
I did a bit of post-processing of the RAW file in Lightroom, mainly cutting down the highlights and whites, increasing contrast, minor desaturation to make the image even more dramatic. Some other minor slider adjustments as well as vignetting. In my camera bag
For this trip I had my Nikon D750, with a Tamron 15-30 2.8 and Nikon 24-70 2.8 lenses. In addition I got myself a graduated ND filter that I got to test out a bit on a couple of other places on the island.Feedback
Have a bit of patience (in this case mostly about the traffic), keep your eyes open for opportunities and don't forget to check the rear-view mirror while out driving, great views are sometimes behind you!
