There is a local farmer in Prairie Grove who had a few rows of sunflowers. Of course I asked permission before I used his property. I received a message from one of my clients wanted to take pictures with her puppy. I was like let’s do it!Time
I remember being really worried about finding the right balance between golden hour and too dark. I gave her the option between 5:30 or 6 P.M. She was enthusiastic when she picked 6 because she got off work at 5 so she would have plenty of time to come and have me take her picture!Lighting
When I was framing up this picture, I was worried about Chessie (the puppy) squirming or biting the flower. However, she just stared at it which helped me get the angle I wanted. I knew I wanted the picture a tad dark so I could match the sunflower with Chessie. It wouldn’t be until later that I realized how much I loved this picture.Equipment
Before my upgrade, I captured this photo on my Nikon D5600 with my exposure on 1/250 and my focal length at 440/10. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I have always wanted to capture a photograph where people feel the emotion or a happy memory. When my client reached out and said her and her puppy, I was a little worried. However, I have seen other people capture dog pictures on Pinterest and I’m like.. I can do this. I immediately knew I wanted Chessie and the sunflower!Editing
I capture my images and immediately go to Adobe Photoshop Lightroom! In my camera bag
I love to be prepared for anything. My favorite lens is a Sigma 50mm and my go to camera is my Nikon D5600! The Sigma lens is perfect to capture anything from a short distance. It creates a sparkle effect which is picture perfect! My go to lens for everything is Nikkor 18-300mm. You may not get the clarity you’re looking for but when shooting quickly especially with children. It’s my favorite lens!Feedback
Puppies are funny so when doing something like this let them run their energy out! This photo was toward the end of the session which made it so much easier for my client to pick Chessie up and hold her. Moral of the story, let them play before you make yourself crazy trying to capture the perfect picture. It will happen!
