Location
This photo was taken at a very popular spot in San Francisco called Cavallo Point. It is known for it's amazing view of the Golden Gate Bridge.Time
I took this photo around 6 or 7 PM, just before the time change happen and sunset became an hour later. I couldn't stay any longer since I had to stop for dinner before driving the 40 minutes back home through San Francisco.Lighting
I had been hoping for there to be some clouds to light up in the sunset, so I was actually disappointed to see that it wouldn't be as interesting as intended. I was going to scrap the photo, but decided to take it to my editor just to see what I could do. Lucky for me I ended up with this beauty.Equipment
Surprisingly this was shot with a $150 Nikon P510. It has one lens and a super small image sensor, practically a phone with insane zoom. Apart from the zoom this camera has nothing you can change about it, as it is a point and shoot camera.Inspiration
It was actually the weekend of my 16th birthday, and my wish was to go out photographing. I spent a day researching the best places to go, and when I found out about this spot, with an amazing view of the Golden Gate Bridge, I just had to go. My plan was to get lots of photos, but I sadly only got one or two good ones that day, this being one of them.Editing
This photo started off as a simple light blue sky with the fading orange of the sunset, which I personally did not like at all. I ended up only changing the color hue a bit, to make the blue more of a darker purple. I tried working with a bit of lighting, but because of the low image quality I couldn't get any good results. In my camera bag
Now, after having saved up for slightly better gear, I almost always have a Nikon D5300 with me when I go somewhere. Along with the 55-300mm lens that I usually have on the camera, I carry a relatively cheap 15-55mm close-up lens for when I don't have the space to get proper distance from my subject. I used to carry a tripod with me, but since my hands are fairly stable, I stopped using that.Feedback
My main advice it to actually plan something. While going on a hike and taking your camera often gets you interesting shots, actually going somewhere you know will have good photo opportunities has the chance of getting you much better photos. If you aren't any good with google maps, or my personal favorite, google earth, try asking other photographers where they like to go.
