Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the Ngorogoro Crater in Tanzania where the crater rim often form a nice backdrop to your image.

Time

It was taken mid morning. The sun is not that low anymore, but also not from right above. If I can remember correctly, a thin layer of clouds did help to soften the contrast of the African sun a bit.

Lighting

The sun is from the back to create a bit of back lighting, but the shadow in the face is still bright enough for detail to appear clearly.

Equipment

It was shot on a Nikon 60D with a long focal zoom. I rested the camera on the vehicle for more stability.

Inspiration

Just a lot of time going on Safaris as a tour guide.

Editing

The post processing I do is usually just simple corrections for color, and maybe a little bit of cropping.

In my camera bag

With wildlife it is essential to have a longfocal lens. At least from 200mm up.

Feedback

Get to Africa, and spend as much time as you can in the National parks.
