This photo was taken in the Ngorogoro Crater in Tanzania where the crater rim often form a nice backdrop to your image.Time
It was taken mid morning. The sun is not that low anymore, but also not from right above. If I can remember correctly, a thin layer of clouds did help to soften the contrast of the African sun a bit.Lighting
The sun is from the back to create a bit of back lighting, but the shadow in the face is still bright enough for detail to appear clearly.Equipment
