Location
This photo was taken during a practice session for the University of Rhode Island men's basketball team. I photograph all their home games. The arena is called the Ryan Center - named after Tom Ryan a URI graduate who became CEO of CVS Corp. Tom is a very generous donor to the UniversityTime
Practice is held during the daytime.Lighting
I set up cross lighting. One to camera left - and the other behind the athlete to camera right. Both lights were Profoto B10's with magnum reflectorsEquipment
As mentioned the lighting was Profoto. I used my Nikon D850 with a 24-70 lens. I shot this at 1/400 of a second. With an ISO of 400, that would be 2 stops under-exposed without the flash. The flash froze the actionInspiration
I attended a Summit sports workshop which is taught by some awesome Nikon shooters. Part of the class was going through instructor portfolios to get ideas. So many great examples f sports portraits - which is what I was going for with this shotEditing
Very little post-processing. A little dodge and burn and some spot healing to eliminate a few hot spots from the gymIn my camera bag
I'm pretty spoiled - own Nikon D5, D500, and a D850. Love them all for different reasons. They all have their placeFeedback
Athletes love having their pictures taken. Take a lot and share them
