It took this photo at one of my favorite spots along the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina.Time
It was just before sunset on a June day around 8:10 pm.Lighting
You never know what you’ll get for lighting on the parkway. You could go everyday for a year to watch sunset and it will different everyday. This particular day the sun lit up the rhododendron perfectly.Equipment
Sony a6000 mirrorless with a sigma 16mm f1.4 lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I go up on the parkway daily to watch sunset. This particular day I knew the rhododendron would be in bloom so I was hoping God would show me something good and he did.Editing
I shoot in raw so I edited with Lightroom. Not much was needed for this particular shot. Just had to bring up the shadows bring down the highlights and dehaze a tadIn my camera bag
Back then when I took this shot I only had a Sony a6000 with a sigma 16mm lens. I’ve upgraded since then and now I always carry my Sony a7iii mirrorless, 24mm f1.4 GM, Sony 85mm f1.8 and a Sigma 100-400 lens.Feedback
The weather in the Blue Ridge Mountains is constantly changing same with when the rhododendron bloom, usually May-June. My only advice would be to drive the parkway as often as you can between those two months around golden hour before sunset.
