Tractors have rolled, scythes and rakes have been wielded and hay bales are stored as cattle fodder. Ceres’ call has been answered and the aestival curtain is slowly drawn close. On this warm evening, the spectacle from atop Hackpen Hill is one to behold. Farm plots and mown hayfields blend seamlessly with a sky emblazoned with soft hues from clouds and setting sun. Barring the distinct paraglider’s motor whirring and the odd walker with his pooping dog, there are no distractions here. Man-made interference makes poor sauce in such visual feast, I find, but I shall make an exception this once and pardon the intruder. In fact I think I’ll reward him for his stunt.
