The Male Reed Bunting to me, looks rather similar to a House Sparrow. But even without looking at the head fully covered in black for Reed Bunting, you can usually tell which one it is by scientific or statistical elimination. Reed Bunting's often hang around Reedbed areas, and are often seen feeding on the reeds, as this one made a prime example. House Sparrow's... well, theyare often hanging around houses. The call is surprisingly different too, so that should also be another hint as to which of the two it is.

These birds are not common at all, but aren't very rare in the UK either. However, I have encountered animal spotters who are often excited about spotting a Reed Bunting (Siskin's are nice too), and must say I can't blame them! Reed Buntings are often seen hanging on a Reed, feeding on seeds. They also feed on small invertebrates.
