The photo was taken in a makeshift studio we created for this shoot.Time
I remember nearing the end of the set. It had been a grueling day and we were all very tired by this point.Lighting
Since it was an impromptu setup and I only had one red gel, I ended up using a red plastic bag over flash on the right. There were 5 lights in total. I had to make sure the intensity of the white light was just enough to show details that otherwise would have been lost in the gelled lights.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS 5D III and a Canon EF 70-200mm L F2.8 USM IS II. I used a variety of lights, whatever was available: A Godox BM600, a Canon 600 EX-RT, a Yongnuo YN600 EXRT, a Yongnuo 560 IV, a Yongnuo 560 II for the lights.Inspiration
We wanted to show Sofia in a different light than the usual portrait. I didn't realize at the time that a literal "different light" would actually make it memorable.Editing
I only did basic color correction in Lightroom. In my camera bag
My workhorse (my only camera) is the 5D III. The 70-200mm is always with me in any shoot as well as the 24-105mm, a a couple of flashes. So far, I haven't been needing anything else.Feedback
Colored lights tend to hide details. So use this sparingly. And don't be afraid to experiment.
