Location
This is a senior portrait taken at the Mission Inn, Riverside CA.Time
Taken in the late afternoon because the Mission's courtyard casts some serious shadows, I wanted to get some warm light while not having cast shadow over the courtyard.Lighting
All-natural light in this shot. No reflectors or flash were used. This shot was about timing and knowing the time of year and location. Having scouted the hotel twice before the shoot it was easy to pick the right time and location.Equipment
Nikon D800 and a Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8 lens, hand heldInspiration
Taken at the request of my daughter. While dad enjoys Architecture and Landscapes more than anything, she likes to force me to use my studio or shoot "models." When I asked her why she wanted me to shoot it, she replied, when you shoot the way you do why should we pay for a photographer? So this was pro-bono work :)Editing
Post was done in Photoshop CC. White balance, color correcting, and sharpening. So, minimal post-processing was required. In my camera bag
I am a 100% Nikon photographer. I only use Nikkor lenses and my current body of choice is my D800. I do have a D700, D300, D200, D100, and an F5 for when I wanna get all nostalgic and shoot with film (God I miss film and was proper darkroom SO BAD)Feedback
Know your location and the light. Take the time to hang out and see how the light changes over the course of a day or projected shooting time frame. this will help you plan the necessary gear, identify locations that make good backgrounds, and allow you to focus on taking the shot as opposed to doing everything the day of the shoot.
