Location
I took this picture on the beach at Rye Harour east Sussex EnglandTime
it was taken about mid dayLighting
The light was good but slightly overcast and it was quite windyEquipment
I used an olympus E520 with a 600 olympus zoom set on automaticInspiration
There was a yacht race going on in the Harbour and I took some shots of the yachts and noticed a few gulls riding the thermals with little effort,it was too good to missEditing
the only post processing was to clean the picture up and a little bit of saturationIn my camera bag
I normally carry an Olympus e-520 with a 600 zoom plus a 42 standard ..and a 75 -150 tele zoom plus an adaptor to digiscope .Feedback
Always keep your eyes open ...it is often the simple shots that get missed. If you are going out to photograph something specific always try and get some back up shots of other subjects just in case you cannot achieve your first objective . Birds riding thermals are quite easy to photograph especiallly on the coast as they are normally at a good height, try to pick a day when the wind is quite strong and the light is good, also I find it better if you can get the sea in the background,as the bird will stand out more and there is less clutter.
