Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken in historic Knights Ferry, California on a crisp fall day. We picked Knights Ferry for its quaint downtown and picturesque backdrop. The Stanislaus River courses alongside the town and there's an old-fashioned ice cream parlor that serves fresh, homemade ice cream.Time
I absolutely love this photo. The camera adores my niece and she sparkles in this shot. By the time I took this picture, it was later in the day, the sun was beginning to descend and the air had a bite to it. My niece was the perfect model, no matter that we'd been shooting for close to an hour by that point. She laughed and giggled and loved every minute.Lighting
I love natural lighting. I like to move around a lot when I shoot and lugging around screens or tripods just isn't my comfort zone. I like to experiment with angles and lighting until I catch that winning shot. I couldn't have asked for a better capture than this one.Equipment
I used a Canon Rebel SLR with a 80-200mm lens.Inspiration
My sister asked if I could take family pictures for her. I was happy to help out. As it turned out, I ended up capturing so many good shots, I surprised them with several enlarged canvas photos for their Christmas present.Editing
For post-processing I use the stellar Greater Than Gatsby filter sets for that eye-catching color pop.In my camera bag
My bag is crammed with lens, lens wipes, and a few other items that probably shouldn't be in there! I'm a messy photographer (something I need to work on) and I usually have too many lens that I won't use but I'm afraid the second I unload my extra lens will be the exact moment that I need them. What I don't have (and it's a cardinal sin) is an extra battery!Feedback
I consider myself an amateur so I'm always learning. The only bit of advice I'd offer is not to be afraid to move around. Be willing to take throwaway shots so you can get that perfect capture. Don't panic, have fun and let your intuition guide your lens.
