Behind The Lens
Location
This photo of my niece was taken in my daughter's bedroom. I'd just purchased a new camera and I needed a test subject. My darling niece agreed to be my guinea pig. What happened next was completely unexpected. I love this photo and it completely captures her impish spirit.Time
The time was mid morning, the sunlight was coming through the window, bathing the room in lovely light.Lighting
I love natural sunlight. I love playing with sun flares and other natural sun effects. As an amateur, I don't quite have a grasp on exactly which f stops to use so I use my eye and intuition. I know in my stomach when I've gotten a good shot.Equipment
I used a Canon Rebel T5. No flash.Inspiration
My niece always inspires me. She has the most incredible personality with a charismatic smile. She practically grabs the camera and demands more photographs. I could photograph her all day.Editing
Very little processing, actually. I was very pleased with the raw photo. I probably could've tweaked the colors a bit but I left it as is.In my camera bag
I need a bigger camera bag because I like to switch lenses a lot. I carry a wide-angle, and a telephoto as well as the standard lens that comes with the camera. My next purchase will be a portrait lens.Feedback
Make sure your lighting is soft, muted but natural. Take lots of angles to find the right spot. Don't be afraid to mess up. The best part about digital is it costs you NOTHING to experiment. Go for it.
