Location
The photograph was taken in the Karoo National park in South Africa.Time
Early morning just after sunrise.Lighting
I had the light directly behind me about an hour after sunrise. This together with the fresh early morning cool temperature made the all difference in terms of the clarity of the picture.Equipment
I used a Nikon D850 with a Nikon AF-S 600mm f/4E FL ED VR Lens with a bean bag placed on the car door.Inspiration
I had been following this group of Kudu bulls when I noticed this bird moving from animal to animal. I anticipated the birds next target focused on a specific Kudu and managed to get a few shots of this bird around the Kudu's head.Editing
I cropped the picture and did small amount post sharpening and clarity adjustments. In my camera bag
I have the following equipment when photographing wildlife from the car. NiKon D5 , Nikon D850 and a Nikon DF . I use the following three lenses ,a Nikon AF-S 600mm f/4E FL ED VR Lens,Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8 G ED N Lens and Nikon AF-S 180-400mm f/4E TC1.4 FL ED VR Lens. I photograph with a bean bag on the car door.Feedback
Get to understand you subject. Keep looking in anticipation for something interesting. Things happen fast in nature and you need to be ready. Use the lighting when planning how you approach your subject and set the camera accordingly.Early morning and late afternoon are the best times to get interesting activity with wildlife.
