I was photographing this dog retrieving sticks his owner was tossing out to him on Baxter Bog when he did this instantaneous partial head spin. It happened so quickly I never noticed it until looking at the photo later. The head spin was so fast and lasted such a brief moment that it created what looks like a double exposure of the nostrils. At first I thought I must have taken the picture at a slow exposure, however, the shutter speed was at a 400th of a second! I find it hard to believe that the photo recorded so much blurred motion of the dog's head at that speed, but apparently, it did, which gives me a new sense of wonder at how fast a dog is capable of shaking its head.
