Love the angle of the shot. Not the most comfortable one to get but a good shot almost everytime.

Location
This shot was taken on a summers afternoon at the Makawao Forest up the hill on Olinda Drive on Maui. Very tall trees and pines they have grown and preserved. There are 2 such forests up there and this was of the lower one.Time
A summers afternoon with the summer high in the sky to the west peeking through the tall pinesLighting
All natural light and caught the sun peeking thru. The forest usually dark unless the sun is bright. This forest has plenty room for light to come in, no need for flashes hereEquipment
A Sony A 7Rii with the 18-200mm Lens. No tripod and no flashInspiration
I was looking for Natures patterns, can see it in the wood, in the pine cones, in the trees here. Once in a while I go back and take shots, a different kind of nature there than lets say the beaches or Twin falls or Haleakala that is currently still snow capped. Nature is forgiving to the learning photographer such as I. This forest is a great place to catch those rays shining thru but when I took this it was still a bit early. I can capture fungus here , moss and pine cones, hikers and trees uniformly spread over the hill adorned with shades blues, browns and green tonesEditing
No post processing but I did enhance the sun spot. When I do post processing I will use Corel, Lightroom, Photoshop and Topaz toolsIn my camera bag
I primarily use the Sony A 7RII with a SEL 18-200mm F 3.5-6.3 lens. I also carry a backup , the Canon Rebel 5 but rarely use it anymore. Although the Canon is not my favorite, one never knows when I will need those lenses or the camera. It is always wise to carry MORE. In my backpack extras of everything including car chargers, plenty of batteries and memory cards as I shoot in RAW format.I carry also the tripod and monopod with me and an umbrella, flashlight, and Macro tubes.Always learning and so my equipment grows with it. I don't forget the business cards and ipad. I try to be prepared for any shot that could come along.Feedback
Being vertically challenged (short in height) I am always looking up and this time was no exception! I make an effort to see what others no not see or notice at all. Look up, look down, behind you, in front of you, look under that rock tree, leaf! I am a landscape photographer primarily so I need Patience and lots of it at times!Take risks, shoot outside your comfort zone and get creative, get low, get high, shoot in the dark, shade and sun, shoot everything and then go with what feels right for YOU. Shooting landscapes and nature I am ever reminded of the changes in the lands, the coasts, the seas, the sunsets, the storms and the colors of them all so I have an opportunity like we all do to freeze time with the simple click of a camera!
