What a shot!! A real stunner, perfectly exposed and sharp right to the horizon. Wonderful!

Location
The image was captured on the magnificent Isle of Skye. A very early start was worth to witness a spectacular sunrise over the Old Man of Storr.Time
I began walking up to the Old Man of Storr about 6.30am after an half an hour drive to the car park close by the start of the walk. I wanted to ensure I had all the necessary equipment to capture an image whatever the lighting conditions might be. It was worth the effort of carrying the large sturdy tripod, which was very much required to capture this shot.Lighting
Trying to capture the changing light as the Sun rose was tricky, it changed so quickly as the clouds moved across the rising Sun. A 9 soft graduated filter help to balance the exposure.Equipment
Canon 5D MKiv, EF17 - 40 f/4l USM lens, Lee .9 soft Grad Filter. Shot at F17 1.6 seconds ISO 50. Manfrotto Tripod.Inspiration
I was taking part in a 4 day Photographic Workshop in February 2018. The Old Man of Storr was a specific location I wanted to visit and capture. This particular day presented the best opportunity weather wise to capture a Sun rise, in the iconic location. I could not have wished for better conditions, it provided colour and drama over a landscape that looks out of this world. I was very pleased with the result.Editing
I did not need to do much post production. A little sharpening, dehazed slightly, a touch of contrast and a tweak of the shadows slider in Lightroom. In my camera bag
I have my Canon 5DMkiv, the standard kit zoom EF28-105mm F4 IS USm, EF17 - 40mm f/4l USM lens, Canon EF100-400mm F/4, Manfrotto MK190XPRO4 Tripod. A must is a selection of Lee filters, the main ones, Big Stopper, .9 soft Grad and a .6 soft Grad.Feedback
Like any Mountainous area the weather can change in an instant. It has a lot to do with planning and being in the location well in advance of the sunrise to assess the area and select the best spot for the photograph you want. There are a number of weather apps and The Photographer's Ephemeris app for iPhone and android that will help to show the sunrise times and direction for the location you are in. That said a lot of patience is required and it may take several attempts/visits before you capture the image you have in your minds eye.
