I took this photo while vacationing in Oahu, Hawaii. It was just down the road from the air bnb I was staying at.Time
Naturally, I was really interested in all the different tropical plants and flowers Oahu had to offer. I made sure to spend at least one morning capturing all the different leaves, colors, and textures within a walking distance of where I was staying. On this particular morning, I was out just after sunrise.Lighting
In this shot, all you're seeing is natural light. The sun had just come up, so the lighting was not too harsh yet.Equipment
I used my Nikon D800 with the Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8. It's my go to setup.Inspiration
The texture of the tree bark stuck out to me but I still wanted to capture those classic palm leaves. I focused in on a small area of the bark and had the leaves blurred in the background. I was literally right up against the tree, resting my camera on it to get this shot.Editing
I always take my photos to Lightroom before posting them. I did the usual exposure adjustment, color correction, detail enhancement, and then warmed it up a touch. I don't usually do much more than that.In my camera bag
I have my Nikon D800 body with me all the time. Usually it is mounted with the Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8. This setup weighs about 5 kg, but I'm pretty sure it's invincible. I once fell directly on top of this camera (lens first) and the camera was completely unscathed! I went home with some bruises though. I also have the Nikkor 40mm 2.8G with me all the time. It makes for some nice portraits as well as macro shots.Feedback
Early morning is my favorite time to get up for nature/landscape photos. Even better if you can make it for sunrise. Not only do you get some really awesome lighting, but there are fewer people around so it's easier to get the shots that you want. It's almost a meditative experience if you ask me.
