Location
This photo was taken on one of my regular routes from where I live to Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire.Time
I got up early to drive on one of my favourite routes to see what potential images I would find as the light was soft and bright and shining on the fields of spring crops. As I drove by this particular field of rape seed the sun was streaming through the trees and I stopped to take the shot.Lighting
Every day is different and the light on this particular day was soft and slightly misty which accentuated the soft yellow colour of the raqpe seed. The rays of light shining through the trees worked like spotlights and added drama to the scene.Equipment
I used my Canon 5d with a 24mm-105mm lens and no other equipment.Inspiration
I love the quality of light first thing in the morning and how it can transform an ordinary scene into something quite extrodinary.Editing
In post processing I cropped out the sky to just accentuate the light rays streaming through the trees and to highlight the yellow of the fields. In my camera bag
I use a Canon 5d mark iii and my favourite lens at the moment is my Sigma 150mm - 600mm which gives me a different view for landscape photography and allows me to capture local wild life too. My travel lens is very useful Canon 24mm - 105mm when I need to just carry one lens. The Canon 17mm - 40mm is great for creating dramatic landscapes and I have a Sigma 105mm macro lens when I want to capture close up detail. I have a manfrotto travel tripod and carry a couple of graduated Lee filters.Feedback
Getting up early to catch the first light is always very rewarding and also late afternoon. Sometimes I have a plan to photograph a particular landmark or other times I will drive round a favourite area of mine and just look for how the light is affecting a certain tree or field because light can be so unpredictable.
