Behind The Lens
Location
The photo was taken at a soccer tournament in a community just west of Houston, Texas. I spent the day at the tournament shooting photos of teams of various age groups.Time
This photo was taken mid morning. It was during the summer months, so it was a warm day in Texas.Lighting
I used what light was available. Being more of an action photographer, I was more concerned about capturing the action than creating any particular mood through the lighting. I differentiate myself from most of the parents who are taking photos by moving around the field to enable me to get head on shots like this from behind the goal as opposed to taking all my shots from the sideline.Equipment
I was shooting with a Canon EOS - 1D Mark II N. I had a 300mm 2.8 lens with a 1.4X Extender. I had my lens on a monopod.Inspiration
No particular inspiration for this shot as I was taking many shots of soccer players that day.Editing
I usually apply some sharpening to all my photos and adjust the lighting to remove dark shadows. I do not think I had to do a lot to this photo. In my camera bag
When shooting sports outside, I usually am shooting with my 300 2.8 lens, but frequently add my 1.4X Extender. I also carry a 70 - 200mm 2.8 lens.Feedback
I have found the secret to sports photography is knowing the game and anticipating the shots. Also, like I said early, move around the field or the court to get different photos from the end zone or the goal line. Many photographers tend to stay in one spot on the sideline and miss a lot of unique action photos.
